Does the procedure actually hurt?
During: no. You feel pressure but no pain. After: most patients report a 2/10 pain level on day one, controlled with ice and ibuprofen. Many never fill their prescription.
How long until I can drive again?
If the procedure was on your left foot and you drive automatic — same day for short trips. Right foot: typically 5–7 days. We will clear you specifically at your day-3 follow-up.
Will my bunion come back?
Recurrence rates with our technique are around 4% over 5 years. Wearing supportive shoes (not pointy heels for 12 hours a day) helps it stay corrected.
Can both feet be done at once?
Yes. Bilateral procedures take about 75 minutes total. Recovery is similar to single-foot — most patients walk out same day.
Is there permanent metal in my foot?
Yes. The minimally invasive technique uses small internal screws made of medical-grade titanium to hold the realignment while the bone heals. They're typically left in place permanently, don't set off airport scanners, and cause no day-to-day issues for the vast majority of patients.
What if I am pregnant or planning to be?
We do not perform elective procedures during pregnancy. Bunions do not typically worsen quickly, so it is safe to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Do you treat children with bunions?
We treat juvenile bunions starting around age 14, but we strongly prefer to wait until skeletal maturity (~16–18) so the correction holds.
How much does it cost?
With insurance: typically your standard surgical copay plus deductible. Self-pay: $3,950 single foot, $6,950 bilateral. 0% financing available through CareCredit.
What is the recovery really like?
Most patients are pleasantly surprised. Day 1–3: mild discomfort. Week 1: back to office work. Week 4: regular shoes. Week 6: cleared for full exercise.
Is Dr. Groysman board-certified?
Yes — board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Over 1,400 bunion procedures performed since 2008.
